| Today, we visited four farms. We found some
great things to do on the farm including some interesting facts to
learn about farm life and animals, as well as today's theme,
everything in its season. The first farm we visited was Emerald
farms,
a goat farm in Greenwood, South Carolina. But there was a lot
more than just goats. They have a BMX racing track, a homemade train station, hobby shop, and a competitive
RC
car track. They also have a store where they sell the things that they
make with the goats' milk. The main products are goat milk soaps and
lotions. These are great at keeping your skin smooth and healthy. They also
sell cheese and fudge made from goats' milk. The next farm we
visited was Sharon Rose Farm in Greer, South Carolina. It is an animal
farm. They raise chickens, turkeys, sheep, cows, and pigs. What makes
this farm special is that all the animals are free range. That means
that they are not kept in little pens, but can move around their area on
the farm.
Happy Cow Creamery is a dairy farm in Pelzer, South Carolina. A lot
of people say that they have the best
milk in the world. I think so,
too. That's because Tom Trantham decided a long time ago that he wasn't
going to use chemicals on his farm. He also developed a system of
grazing, that he calls "Twelve Aprils," where the cows graze in the
pasture through special field rotation and get to eat their favorite food all year long. The last
farm we visited was in Lexington, South Carolina. This was an unusual
farm, because it had a bunch of mazes. The main attraction was a giant
five acre corn maze. It was kind of hard to find my way out, but it was
fun. We had a lot of fun on the farms, and learned a lot of cool
things. I hope you did too. And remember, there's a season for
everything, even fun. See you next time. |
