Japan Fest was an amazing event held yearly within the Stone
Mountain Park area in Stone Mountain, GA. There I was
surrounded by beautiful culture, delicious food, and very fun
activities.
I got to wrestle a Sumo wrestler! After the tournament,
Samuel and I got some special instruction from one of the Sumos
for how to properly begin a match as well as good strategy.
Japan Fest also had a lot of crafts for kids. Under the
craft tent,
you can make origami, paint paper lanterns, color masks, and
more. Here I am about to put on a mask I made. At
one point in Japan's history, they used similar masks in their
traditional theater.
Martial arts demonstrations like Karate and Japanese
Swordsmanship (Kendo and Shin-kendo) as well as cultural
demonstrations, like Japanese singing, calligraphy, tea
ceremonies, or traditional dance were happening on several
stages through out the 2 day event. This made for an excellent
educational field trip! There were even seminars on Bonsai
growing. In this picture, I'm being fitted for a Yukata
and Obi by one of the many vendors.
Of course, as you'll see in our show, there was plenty of
cultural dishes and food as well.
