Filming at Japan Fest Stone Mountain, GA
This is my very first blog entry. Very fun! I went to Japan Fest in Stone Mountain, GA this weekend to film an episode for Fun Food Adventures. For my homeschool co-op presentation I did a report explaining all about the different activities at Japan Fest. It was a great educational field trip. There were traditional Japanese activities like the Gummi-bear challenge and lantern painting. I also made an origami sumu wrestler and a Japanese mask. Samuel liked watching the sumo wrestlers and I really enjoyed the swordmanship demonstrations. The archery was very cool as well. The Japanese candy maker was very neat. He could skulpt animals out of candy blindfolded!
We were blessed with great weather both days of filming. It rained a bit on Sunday morning but, the major storms held off until exactly 5pm when the festival ended. God’s timing is perfect!
After each day of filming we headed back to the hotel to cool off and swim in the pool before dinner. A great restaurant right near our hotel was called the Metro Diner. They had only been open 4 months. It was owned and run by a Greek family. They had the biggest menu I have ever seen with dishes from all corners of the globe (German, Greek, Mexican, Italian, etc.). The cakes were the tallest I have ever seen in my life. They were 6 layers high! We all really loved their Greek Lemon Chicken Soup and Samuel especially liked the Matzoh ball soup. When it was time for dessert, it was hard to choose between the Snickers cake, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, or Seven-Up cake. There was also the Giant Chocolate Mouse with a Chocolate Moose Lollipop on the top. There were 9 of us at dinner and we ordered 3 desserts and we couldn’t even finish one of them! If you are ever in Atlanta,GA try to stop by the Metro-Diner it is on Hwy78 Exit 9. One exit passed Stone Mountain going West.
