Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

An old-fashioned treat for your whole family to eat!

Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 10-15 minutes
Total Time: 40-45 minutes
Yield: 1 batch
Servings: 60

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 

Prep
Combine sugar, cocoa, and milk in a saucepan.
Stir to blend, then bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Turn to a simmer and do not stir again.
Place candy thermometer in pan and cook until temperature reaches 238 degrees.
If you are not using a thermometer, then cook until a drop of this mixture in a cup of cold water from a soft ball.
Feel the ball with your fingers to make sure it is right consistency.
Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla extract.
Beat with a wooden spoon until the fudge loses its sheen.
Do not underheat.
Pour into a greased (with butter or margarine) 8x8-inch pan and let cool.
Cut into about 60 squares.
You can add nuts if you wsih.
