Baklava

This amazing sweet originated in Greece

Preparation Time: about 30-45 minutes
Cook Time: varies

Yield: 1 batch
Servings: 48

Ingredients
1 pound filo dough
1 pound rendered butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/12 pounds ground walnut
1 12
 

Prep
To make the syrup, boil together sugar, water, and lemon juice until it becomes a little heavy and syrupy (about 15 minutes)
Remove from heat
For the baklava, take two sheets of filo dough and place on bottom of buttered pan
Brush with melted butter
Prepare the dough in this manner until half is used
Place nut mixture in center and distribute across dough evenly, about 1/2 inch thick
Continue layering buttered filo until all sheets are used up
With a sharp knife, cut into diamnod-shaped pieces
If the dough starts to curl up, simply wet with fingers, sprinkle the top lightly with water
Bake at 300 degrees until lightly browned
Remove from oven and poour cool syrup aver baklava, making sure all pieces are covered
