Pasta With Spicy Shrimp Sauce

A great pasta dish with a spicy kick

1 1/2 pounds shrimp
2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 small onions, cut into thin wedges
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 10 ounce cans tomatoes with green chili peppers
1/2 cup dried tomatoes, drained and snipped
1/3 cup fresh basil, snipped
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 pound fettuccine or linguine
Fresh basil sprig

Cook mushrooms, onion, and garlic in hot oil or in a large skillet for 4-5 minutes or until mushrooms are tender, stirring occasionally
Stir in undrained tomatoes, dried tomatoes, snippedbasil, bay leaf, and red pepper
Bring to boiling
Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 to 15 minutes or until sauce thickens slightly
Meanwhile, cook pasta in a large amount of boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes or until just tender
Drain
Stir shrimp into bubbling sauce
Return to boiling
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes or until shrimp turn pink
Pour sauce over pasta
Garnish with a basil sprig, if desired
